Manager Spotlight: Lou Boyd
Born and raised in southwest Louisiana (also known as “Cajun country”), Lou Boyd brings a lot of spunk and personality to Move It Self Storage. As property manager of our Dawnadele Ave location
in Baton Rouge, she’s been taking care of customers for 30 years. Even though she spoke Cajun French before English, she knows the language of self storage extremely well.

What’s a typical day like at Move It?
I wear many hats here. I do just about everything and it’s usually nonstop. Renting a unit, renting a U-Haul truck, returning a U-Haul truck, and everything in between.
What do you enjoy most about your position?
The people I interact with on a daily basis. I like interacting with people and just talking with them. And they seem to like me too.
Who are your favorite customers?
One of my favorite customers in the world was Shaquille O’Neil. He was a college student at LSU, which is right down the interstate from us. The first time I saw him I barely came up to his waist – and I’m tall! Shaq, Stanley Roberts, and another teammate would always come back around Christmastime when they had to move out of the dorms. They were very nice young men.
Any other good work stories?
We once sold a storage unit in an auction and we found an Olympic gold medal for track and field. The person who bought the storage unit was kind enough to come forward, and with our attorney’s help, ended up finding the medalist. It turns out it was his parents who had the storage unit. It was really cool to see.
What are some things people might not know about being the manager of a storage facility?
I want them to know I do so much more than sitting behind the desk. A lot of people have that misconception and are surprised when I tell them I have 600 units to take care of and about 1,200 customers. I clean units, I’ve learned how to do small repairs over the years, and I’ve become an expert at working on the gate. I can be pretty crafty.
What could we find you doing when you’re not at work?
I love going to my grandsons’ baseball games. My youngest plays first base and my oldest is a catcher. I really enjoy watching them.
I also enjoy bowling – I played league bowling for years. Now I’m more of a spectator. My highest game I ever bowled was a 258. We always had a nice time at the bowling alley on Friday nights. Our team name was even ‘TGIF!’
What is your favorite thing about working for Move It?
The people I work for. From the tip top of the mountain all the way to the bottom. They’re all down to earth people. I used to work for people where you could never put a face to a name. This is way different.
