Fish For A Cause At The Big Game Battle

August 11, 2015

A yearly tradition that’s not only fun and exciting, but also raises a lot of money for charity, the Big Game Battle takes place Aug. 13-16 on Nantucket Island. The tournament takes place East and South of the island to give anglers the best chances of reeling in everything from Bluefin to Mahi Mahi, Albacore and Blue Marlin.

Each year, the tournament chooses a special charity to give proceeds to; this year, the Big Game Battle benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Last year, the Big Game Battle raised over $60,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs and hopes to exceed that amount this year.

To enter the tournament, the fee is $750 per boat. Though there are prizes in the tournament, there is no grand prize of a large cash amount; this tournament mainly focuses on the fun of fishing and the goodness of charity.

Fish caught throughout the weekend will be judged on a points system, with fish like Big Eyed Tuna and Swordfish bringing in high point amounts. The overall winning score will be determined by adding points up for the entire weekend of fishing. Daily scores will be posted so anglers can keep up with their numbers. The winner will receive a Big Game Battle trophy. Fill out a sign up form online here, and register for a slip by sending the form directly to the Nantucket Boat Basin.
